Review of Thornbury Premium Apple Cider

I first tried this cider last year at a burger bar in Toronto. I came upon it just recently at my local LCBO and decided to give it another try. The cider comes in a six pack of 341ml bottles for $12.95 and each bottle has 5.3% ALC./VOL. I read the serving directions and you have your choice of having it chilled and chilled over ice. With this review, I poured the cider directly into the glass without ice. Upon opening the bottle, there wasn't an overpowering smell of apples. Upon the pour, more of the aroma became apparent (apple and pear). A white head formed and it was very carbonated/bubbly. The colouring of the cider is straw. Now for the taste.....at first you clearly taste the apples. Upon reflection, you can taste a hint of pear and citrus flavours. The combination of flavours gives a clear, crisp and clean dry taste.... it is very refreshing. This would be a great cider for a hot summer day or night or for those winters dreaming of nicer weather. Now for the history of the company. Thornbury Premium Apple Cider is produced by the Thornbury Village Cidery in Thornbury, Ontario. Since this is in apple country for Ontario, all the apples used are local. The company was bought out by the Beer Barons in 2011 but the operations has remained the same. For further information, you can visit Beer Barons website at www.beerbarons.com The best news is that it is gluten free and according to Beer Baron website there is only 167 calories per bottle. I give this cider a rating of 9.4 out of 10. It is well worth the purchase! Enjoy!!! Cheers, Laurie
