Rekorderlig Elderflower Cider

Size: 500ml cans
Alc Content: 7%

I first tried this cider on my travels in Lancaster, England. The pub was called the Merchant. I really enjoyed the cider and was glad to have experienced this unique taste. Within 8 months of that trip, the LCBO (Ontario, Canada) started carrying this flavoured cider.

Rekorderlig Elderflower cider is one of the products available from Rekorderlig. The ciders were first created in 1999 from naturally spring water from Vimmerby Sweden and is brewed by Abro Bryggeri.

The cider is made from pear and apple cider along with other ingredients of course. Though apples is listed in the ingredients it is considered a flavoured pear cider.

On opening the can, a nice sweet smell greets the senses. With the pour, you get a very carbonated drink. The top is fully white but it goes down as the little carbon bubbles burst. The taste is very sweet. If you have a sweet tooth or enjoy sweet drinks then this cider is for you. I enjoy it when I am not in the mood for apple based ciders.

My rating for this cider is an 8.4 out of 10.

For further information you can visit their website at www.rekorderlig.com Their website caters more for the European countries. You will notice that the alcohol content is lower and it is in bottles and not cans. They can also be found on twitter @rekorderlig

Growers Granny Smith Apple Cider

Tonight my choice of cider is Growers Granny Smith Apple Cider.  Growers Cider Company is a Canadian company that was founded in 1927 in British Columbia.  They have created many flavoured ciders but tonight I have been sampling the above.  Open opening the bottle I received a nice pleasant scent of Granny Smith Apple.  Upon pouring the cider, I found it a little carbonated but not bad.  What really got me was the taste.    The flavour gave the taste buds the wow factor!!!  It was a nice clean crisp taste with a hint of sweetness.  My first thought was wow I could drink this on a hot blustery summer day or night....it is that refreshing.

The cider is available at the LCBO in a case of 6 330ml bottles.  But most of all it is one the higher alchol contented ciders at 7%.  I would highly recommend this cider whether you are just venturing into the world of cider or a veteran.

For further information on this cider and the company in general their website is www.growerscider.com

My rating is a 9 out of 10.

Cheers,

Laurie

Blackthorn Cider

This week my cider of choice was Blackthorn Cider.  This product can be found at the LCBO and some pubs in the Toronto area have it on tap.  Blackthorn Cider is a product from England...the West Country to be more specific.  The colouring of this cider is an amber colour with a dry taste.  I have discovered that dry means that more of the natural sugars have been fermented to give it a sharper taste than sweet. Available in a 500ml can from the LCBO the alcohol content is 6%.  A great tasting cider that needs to be served chilled and not over ice unless you choose to do so.  This product is made using bittersweet cider apples.  When first opening the can of this treat, you get a light aroma of apples.  But upon the first sip, you get the full on apple taste.  I would recommend this cider to those who are first venturing into the world of cider.  I found that it wasn't as carbonated as some ciders. For further information on this cider you can visit Blackthorn's website at www.blackthorn.uk.com My rating for this cider is and 8.9 out of 10.

Review of Magners Cider

I have to say I got some positive feedback about my last rating.  I was over zealous in my rating of 5 out of 5.  So as of now I will be giving my ratings out of 10 to give myself room to play with.  If I were to go back, Williams would have received a 7.5 to an 8 out of 10.

Tonight I am going international in my choice of cider.  Today's selection is Magners Original Cider.  This is an Irish cider that was established in 1935 and is available at the LCBO.  The alchol content is 4.5%.

This is a unique apple cider as it has a darker colour than most.   Upon pouring the colour you see is the colour you get.  There is no clouding.  Tonight I have poured over ice as suggested and I have to say it is a refreshing drink.  I have had this cider before without using ice and the taste is different.  If you drink it without ice, I found there was a bit of an after taste and one you had to get use to.  Over the rocks, the after taste disappears.   You can get two different taste experiences with this product.

As for the aroma, a slight apple smell is apparent upon opening.  It isn't overpowering.  I went to Magners website as I was curious to see which type of apple is used as the colour  is a dark golden yellow.  According to their website they use  over 17 different types of apples.  This is perhaps the reason of the unique taste and colour.

For those of you who need to follow a gluten free diet, then Magners is a viable choice.  For more information on Magners go to their website at www.magners.com

Now for the rating.....I give Magners Original Cider an 8 out of 10.  Just for the fact I got two different taste experiences with one product.

Cheers!
